Relating to participation in the uniform group coverage program for
active school employees and to a study concerning health coverage
for school district employees.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 1444 would prohibit entities participating in the Texas School Employees Uniform Group Health Coverage from offering an alternative group health coverage plan to employees and their dependents. The bill would also allow participating entities to decide to either continue their participation in the plan or discontinue their participation. This decision would be able to be reconsidered every five years.
The bill would require each regional education service center to establish a regional school
district health coverage advisory committee to conduct a study
assessing health care needs of and health coverage options
currently available to employees of school districts served by that
service center; and alternative health coverage options that may be
available. Requirements for the study are prescribed.
Texas action is neutral toward SB 1444.
