Relating to the repeal of the authority of political subdivisions to adopt or enforce juvenile curfews.

HB 561 would prohibit a city or county from adopting or enforcing juvenile curfew ordinances except as authorized during a declared disaster.
Texas Action supports HB 561 because it would advance individual liberty, personal responsibility, and limited government. Minors should not be subject to arrest or criminal penalties for activities that do not violate anyone's rights. Existing laws against trespassing, vandalism and other offenses are sufficient to hold minors accountable for actual criminal behavior. HB 561 would eliminate local curfew laws that unnecessarily restrict the freedom of younger individuals.
