Relating to excused absences from public school for certain
students to visit a professional’s workplace for a career
investigation day.
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 3864 would allow school campuses to excuse a student from attending
school for a career investigation day to visit a professional at the
professional’s workplace during the student’s junior and senior
years of high school for the purpose of determining the student’s
interest in pursuing a career in the professional’s field.
Texas supports HB 3864 on the principles of limited government, individual liberty and free market. Allowing districts to give students the day off for this purpose potentially serves the function of public education better than being present in the school building that day.
