Bill Caption

Relating to measures to facilitate the award of postsecondary course credit leading to workforce credentialing based on military experience, education, and training.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 33 would task the Texas Workforce Commission to study and identify programs or courses offered by career schools or colleges leading to industry-based certifications or other workforce credentials that frequently align with skills obtained through military experience, education, and training. HB 33 would require schools to provide course credit to any student with qualified relevant military experience, education, and training. This type of credit would also apply to certificates as well as degrees from institutions of higher education.

Vote Recommendation Notes

The Texas Workforce Commission conducts any number of studies and programs to help skilled students receive credit for relevant skills. This appears to be within the scope of the Commission's mission without adding additional costs to taxpayers. Texas Action remains neutral on HB 33.
