Relating to the exemption of certain firefighters and police officers from jury service.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 2485 would permit permanently employed police officers and firefighters to establish an exemption from jury service on the basis of their employment.
Texas Action is neutral on HB 2485 as it does not significantly affect any of our Liberty Principles. While it excludes specific classes of individuals from jury service, having firefighters and police officers available to the public is a compelling reason for exclusion.
