Relating to the reimbursement of expenses to certain counsel appointed to represent a defendant in a criminal proceeding.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 2446 would require an attorney appointed to represent a defendant in a noncapital case to be reimbursed for travel expenses or remote interview expenses if the defendant is housed at a correctional facility more than 50 miles away from the presiding court.
Texas Action is neutral on HB 2446 as it does not touch directly upon any of our Liberty Principles.
