Bill Caption

Relating to school district hearings regarding complaints.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated

Bill Analysis

HB 2120 would revise the process by which school districts must resolve complaints of constituents. The bill would stipulate that the process must include an initial administrative hearing, allow an opportunity to appeal the administrative decision following the initial hearing, and provide resolution of the complaint within 120 days.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 2120 because it would provide more structure to the complaint resolution process, specifically allow for an appeal, and implement a timeframe for resolution so complaints do not simply go unaddressed in perpetuity. This is consistent with our limited government principle.
