Relating to the timing of changes to county election precincts.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 2057 would change the date each commissioners court shall determine whether the county election precincts comply with existing law from March or April of an odd-numbered year to an even-numbered year. The bill would also change the date of a county election precinct boundary takes effect, from the first day of an even-numbered year year following the year in which the change is ordered, to the first day of an odd-numbered year year following the year in which the change is ordered.
The purpose of this bill is to appropriately align the timing of county election precinct boundary changes and their effective dates to reduce confusion among candidates and voters following redistricting. Conducting an orderly redistricting process is a legitimate and necessary function of limited government which promotes free and fair elections. Texas Action supports HB 2057.
