Bill Caption

Relating to law enforcement’s use of force by means of a drone.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1758 would require each state or local law enforcement agency to adopt and update as necessary a written policy regarding the agency's use of force by means of a drone. The bill would also establish the circumstances under which use of force by a non-autonomous drone would be justified.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 1758 on the principle of limited government. Clearly establishing limits for the justified use of force by means of non-autonomous drones provides greater government transparency and limits the potential for abuse.
