Relating to the operations and functions of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 1585 would make various changes to existing law regarding the operations of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. It would make minor language updates and enact other changes such as requiring the TRST to designate a compliance agent within the retirement system to assist members by performing member protection and advocacy functions, requiring the retirement system to make all reasonable efforts to locate and notify a member or, if appropriate, the member’s heirs of their entitlement to a return of accumulated contributions, and requiring the board of trustees to develop an outreach plan designed to assist each member of the system, and as appropriate the members’ employers, in effectively planning for the member’s retirement.
The bill would also push back the TRST's Sunset review from 2021 to 2033.
As HB 1585 does not pertain to the liberty principles, Texas Action is neutral on this bill.
