positions in fire and police departments in certain municipalities.
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 1561 would award an extra 5 points toward the score of an individual taking the entrance exam to become a firefighter or police officer if they live in the municipality they would be working in.
Texas Action is opposed to HB 1561 on the principles of limited government and individual liberty. The examination is a test of how qualified you are to be a first-responder, not how native you are to the area.
