Bill Caption

Relating to the civil liability of certain businesses in connection with allowing concealed handguns on the business premises.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1548 would prohibit a person with control over the premises of a business who allows entry on the premises by a license holder with a concealed handgun from being held liable for damages arising from the lawful carrying of a concealed handgun on the premises based solely on that permission.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 1548 because it would promote individual liberty and personal responsibility. Business owners should not be held liable for permitting licensed handgun owners who concealed carry on their property. HB 1548 would protect business owners from civil penalties for maintaining perfectly legal policies.
