Relating to the duties of a law enforcement agency regarding
missing children and missing persons and to the duties of a justice
of the peace or other investigator regarding unidentified bodies.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 1419 would require a justice of the peace investigating certain deaths to enter all available identifying features of the unidentified body (fingerprints, dental records, any unusual physical characteristics, and a description of the clothing found on the body) into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. The bill makes similar requirements on the entering of other incidents into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
Texas Action is neutral on HB 1419 which does not appear to weigh on our liberty principles.
