Relating to state occupational licensing of certain military veterans and military spouses.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 139 allows military veterans or spouses to qualify for existing exemptions for the examination requirements when getting their educator’s license in Texas. The bill would also ensure that appropriate credit is given to military veterans or military spouses for their individual experience in any licensed profession, and require that rules be adopted to expedite Texas residency for military spouses applying for occupational licensure who arrive in Texas due to a permanent change of station order for the military member to whom they are married.
Texas Action supports HB 139 which would make it easier for military veterans and military spouses to practice licensed professions in Texas for which they are qualified in another state. We would support efforts to amend this legislation to generally expand occupational license reciprocity with other states ease the burden of occupational licensure for current and future Texas residents.
