Relating to the eligibility for participation in University
Interscholastic League activities of certain public school
students who receive outpatient mental health services.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 1080 would prohibit schools from restricting University Interscholastic League (UIL) participation of students who receive outpatient mental health services from a
mental health facility.
Texas Action supports HB 1080 on the principle of individual liberty. If a student is capable and otherwise eligible to participate in a UIL activity, their outpatient mental health treatments ought not factor into the matter.
