Relating to conditions of community supervision for defendants convicted of certain criminal offenses involving animals.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 804 would authorize a judge, if a judge grants community supervision to a defendant convicted of cruelty to livestock animals, attack on assistance animal, cruelty to nonlivestock animals, dog fighting, and cockfighting, among other offenses, to require the defendant to meet certain conditions of community supervision. These conditions may include: (1) requiring the defendant to relinquish custody of animals in the defendant's possession; (2) prohibiting the defendant from possessing or exercising control over any animals or residing in a household where animals are present; or (3) requiring the defendant to participate in a psychological counseling or other appropriate treatment program.
Texas Action is neutral on SB 804 because it neither advances nor hinders any of our liberty principles.
