Relating to local school health advisory councils and health education provided by school districts, including requirements regarding human sexuality instruction.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 784 would require local health advisory councils to submit the minutes of each meeting to the school district and for the district to post the minutes onto their website. This bill would also require school boards to create a policy for procedures on adopting a curriculum on human sexuality. Parents would be provided each date on which the district's human sexuality instruction will be provided to the student, along with detailed descriptions of the content to be provided on that date.
Texas Action supports SB 784 which is in alignment with the principles of limited government, individual liberty, and personal responsibility. This creates greater transparency in public education and ensures parents a greater opportunity to engage on this important issue.
