SB 548 would add that it is a defense to prosecution or imposition of a civil penalty in a matter before the Texas Ethics Commission if the respondent requested a written advisory opinion from the Texas Ethics Commission and did not get an opinion within the time prescribed by law. Other provisions of this bill are largely procedural and relate to dismissal of a complaint following corrected information that remedies the alleged violation, as well as preliminary review procedures.
