Relating to the use of public school counselors' work time.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 426 would require school districts to adopt policies to ensure that school counselors spend at least 80% of their time on duties that are components of the developmental guidance and counseling program. If a school district decides not to adopt a policy, they must post on their website an explanation as to why they cannot make a policy and the additional roles a school counselor would carry out.
Texas Action remains neutral on SB 426 because it does not promote or violate any of our liberty principles. This seems to be more of an administrative and clerical change.
