Relating to the criteria for review by the Sunset Advisory Commission of an agency that licenses an occupation.
SB 237 would require the Sunset Advisory Commission to determine whether the governing body of an agency has evaluated the type of personal information of licensees that the agency should make available on its website based on certain prescribed criteria including what information the public needs to know, balanced by whether making the information available online could subject a license holder to harassment, solicitation, or other nuisance.
Texas Action supports SB 237 because it promotes individual liberty. Agencies with jurisdiction over licensed occupations should be scrutinized when posting personal information of their licensees to the internet, particularly for the safety and privacy of the licensees.
