Relating to the study of the elimination of the effects of renewable energy subsidies.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 2232 would direct the Public Utility Commission (PUC) to study and identify the effects that renewable energy subsidies have on the ERCOT market, and specifies certain critical market components that must be evaluated in that study. More specifically, the study would identify the effects on pricing, reliability, and efficiency of the electric power market in the ERCOT power region. It would also direct PUC to identify a range of potential actions to eliminate the identified effects of renewable energy subsidies through policies that can mitigate or offset the subsidy impacts.
Texas Action recommends supporting SB 2232 because it promotes limited government and free market principles. We encourage a study to identify the effects of renewable energy subsidies in order to eliminate or mitigate those effects, which ultimately have negative impacts on consumers and the electricity market.
