Bill Caption

Relating to the eligibility of certain events for funding under the Major Events Reimbursement Program.

Fiscal Notes

The fiscal implications of the bill cannot be determined at this time. The fiscal impact would depend on the number and size of events covered under the bill.

Bill Analysis

SB 2182 would ensure that the Texas Motor Speedway continues to be eligible for the Texas Major Events Reimbursement Fund, and would include the National Hot Rod Association Fall Nationals among those events eligible for funding.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action opposes SB 2182 because it violates limited government and free market principles. This bill would add another event to the reimbursement program, through which it may receive public funds to subsidize events. A more limited government approach would be to eliminate the fund altogether and increase economic prosperity through lower spending and taxes, and less regulation.
