Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The agency is required to implement a provision of this Act only if the legislature appropriates money specifically for that purpose. If the legislature does not appropriate money specifically for that purpose, the agency may, but is not required to, implement a provision of this Act using other appropriations available for that purpose.

Bill Analysis

SB 2180 would require the State Board of Education to include coding, computer programming, computational thinking, and cybersecurity on the essential knowledge and skills curriculum for grades kindergarten through 8th grade. This bill would also create the Computer Science Strategic Advisory Committee to develop and provide recommendations to increase computer science classes in participating public schools.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action remains neutral on SB 2180 because it does not affect our liberty principles.
