Bill Caption

Relating to a study by the Texas Education Agency of career and technology education programs.

Fiscal Notes

Estimated Two-year Net Impact to General Revenue Related Funds for SB2042, Committee Report 1st House, Substituted: a negative impact of ($250,000) through the biennium ending August 31, 2021.

The agency is required to implement a provision of this Act only if the legislature appropriates money specifically for that purpose. If the legislature does not appropriate money specifically for that purpose, the agency may, but is not required to, implement a provision of this Act using other appropriations available for that purpose.

The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill.

Bill Analysis

SB 2042 would create a study on credentials and certificates being offered at high schools through career and technology programs. The Texas Education Association (TEA) would be required to submit a report based on the results of the study by September 1, 2021.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action remains neutral on SB 2042. This study appears to be within the legitimate scope of TEA responsibilities but does not affect our liberty principles.
