Bill Caption

Relating to notice regarding voting by physicians at certain entities to authorize the differentiation of physicians based on maintenance of certification.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Currently, certain physicians who serve on a board of hospital are allowed voting authority for the purpose of determining the hiring status of potential staff. Physicians that vote are required to not discriminate based on licensure. For example, the board is not to discriminate if a physician holds a license that is an MD or DO.

SB 1882 would require certain hospitals to provide a notification to the physicians of a voting board of a hospital in order for them receive information regarding an election in a timely manner.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action remains neutral on SB 1882, as it neither advances nor hinders any of principles. Previous law was recently passed that allow physicians to vote on the differentiation of physician's credentials at hospitals, but the voting process was never clearly defined. This bill simply provides a more efficient process for physicians that have voting rights on a hospital board.
