Bill Caption

Relating to eligibility of certain children for free prekindergarten programs in public schools.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 1679 would provide automatic eligibility for four-year-old children who qualified for free, half-day pre-kindergarten at the age of three. Currently, parents are required to complete paperwork that proves eligibility after the child turns four.

Vote Recommendation Notes

While we oppose taxpayer subsidized prekindergarten programs as not being within the proper role of the state, we do not oppose this change in proof of eligibility requirements; consequently we remain neutral.
