Relating to the use of public money and resources by employees of an
independent school district to distribute a communication that
advocates for or against a political measure, candidate, or other
matter; creating a criminal offense.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Texas Action supports SB 1569 on the basis of limited government, private property, and individual liberty. Tax dollars should not be used to promote political purposes because it advocates for causes with which taxpayers may not agree. This bill closes a loophole that previously allowed districts to circumvent this prohibition on the use of public funds for these purposes.
