Relating to the ability of public school teachers to maintain student discipline without being subjected to adverse employment consequences.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 1451 would require teacher appraisal methods used by the commissioner of the Texas Education Agency or the school district to not consider the amount of disciplinary referrals made by the teacher. This bill would give teachers the freedom to maintain order in the classroom and refer students for discipline as necessary without fear that doing so will have an adverse employment consequences.
We support SB 1451 which enhances limited government and individual liberty by allowing teachers to do their job effectively with respect to classroom discipline without fearing that doing so may have adverse employment consequences.
