Relating to suicide prevention in public school curriculum and certain educational programs concerning suicide prevention and substance abuse prevention.

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 1390 would require school districts to include mental health and suicide prevention as part as their enrichment curriculum. Essential knowledge and skills in the health curriculum would include the relationship between drugs and alcohol to suicide, recognizing signs of suicide, and help-seeking behaviors and community suicide prevention services. This bill also requires local school health advisory councils to make policy recommendations on raising parental awareness of suicide-related risk factors.
