Relating to the deployment of advanced metering and meter
information networks by certain non-ERCOT utilities.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 986 would allow certain non-ERCOT electric utilities that elect to deploy advanced metering and metering information to recover reasonable costs. This deployment would be subject to PUC rules and regulations including rules related to customer protections, privacy, ownership, and options given consumers to continue to receive service through a non-advanced meter.
Texas Action is neutral on HB 986 because it does not affect our liberty principles.
