Bill Caption

Relating to training requirements for a member of the board of trustees of an independent school district.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 975 would mandate that the State Board of Education require school board members to complete training on school safety. The SBOE would be required to coordinate with the Texas School Safety Center to create the training curriculum.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Providing a safe learning environment for students in public schools is consistent with the principle of limited government. To the extent that requiring school board members to take school safety training may achieve that purpose, we support HB 975.
