Relating to the model training curriculum and required training for school district peace officers and school resource officers.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 876 would eliminate a requirement that a school district needs to have a student enrollment of 30,000 or more for school peace officers to be required to undergo a education and training program. This bill also would extend the amount of time an officer has to complete the training from 120 to within 180 days.

School districts with an enrollment of less than 30,000 would be required to create a policy for training district peace officers and school resource officers. Current officers employed at these districts would be required to undergo training by October 1st 2020.
