Relating to the residency requirement to be eligible for public
office.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 831 would allow persons running for public office in Texas to satisfy the residency requirement (must live in Texas and live in the district) during a temporary absence as long as they show that they have made a reasonable and substantive attempt to put into force their intent to return and have the legal right and practical ability to return to their residence.
Texas Action remains neutral on HB 831 because it does not affect our liberty principles.
