Bill Caption

Relating to reimbursement for a certain portion of a forensic medical examination of a sexual assault survivor and for the evidence collection kit required for the examination.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 616 would require the attorney general to compensate a health care facility a reasonable amount of the cost for providing a forensic medical examination to a sexual assault survivor and for an evidence collection kit. HB 616 would also increase the amount of time someone could report a sexual assault and retain the right to a forensic medical exam from 96 to 120 hours.

The bill also proscribes related procedural and documentation requirements.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral on HB 616 as it doesn't affect our liberty principles.
