Bill Caption

Relating to the extension of the expiration date of the Property Redevelopment and Tax Abatement Act.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 360 would extend the Property Redevelopment and Tax Abatement Act, which provides certain taxing units with the ability to provide tax abatement agreements to property owners, for another ten years.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action opposes this bill for violating the principles of limited government and free markets. The gifting of tax exemptions and abatements to individuals and businesses unfairly increases the tax burden on other tax payers. Taxes, when necessary, should be broad-based and applied equally. To this end, the Legislature should allow the Property Redevelopment and Tax Abatement Act to expire.
