Relating to the payment of certain fees to municipalities by
entities that provide telecommunications and cable or video
services.
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 3535 would allow a telecommunications provider that provides telephone and cable over the same line using a municipality's right-of-way to pay a single fee. Currently, such a provider may be charged twice for use of a single right-of-way because the fees are duplicated in separate codes.
Texas Action recommends supporting HB 3535 because it promotes limited government by preventing municipalities from unfairly charging a provider twice for the same right-of-way.
