Bill Caption

Relating to the services provided by assisted living facilities.

Fiscal Notes

According to the Legislative Budget Board, no fiscal impact to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 3329 would amend Section 247.002(1), Health and Safety Code, to change the definition of an assisted living facility to allow a facility to provide health maintenance activities as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing. Additionally, HB 3329 would require the Health and Human Services Commission to adopt rules and provide guidelines on the scope of services that an assisted living facility would be authorized to provide.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 3329 because it adheres to the principles of free markets, limited government, and individual liberty. Whenever the operational scope of an assisted living facility is broadened, those businesses have a greater ability to expand the variety of services and procedures that may be offered to their patients; resulting in greater healthcare outcomes, more consumer choice, and likely lower costs.
