HB 2984 would require the State Board of Education to add technology applications to the essential knowledge and skills curriculum for grades kindergarten through eighth. This would include coding, computer programming, computational thinking, and cyber-security.

Texas Action opposes HB 2984. It is not a core function of public education to implement a curriculum that would add technology applications to the essential knowledge and skills curriculum for grades kindergarten through eighth. This bill would include coding, computer programming, computational thinking, and cyber-security which are not core academic subjects in K-8 testing.
