Under current law there is a veterinarian-client privilege established between veterinarians and their clients. HB 2787 stipulates that privilege would be waived if a client or the owner of an animal treated by the veterinarian publishes information about that care and treatment in a public forum.
A veterinarian would not violate this privilege by providing information to a veterinarian or appropriate government entity regarding the prescribing, dispensing, or requesting of a controlled substance, animal cruelty, or an attack of an animal.
Texas Action is neutral on HB 2787 because it does not affect our liberty principles.
