Bill Caption

Relating to an active shooter emergency protocol for public school districts and required active shooter training for school district peace officers and school resource officers.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 2655 would require school districts to include protocols for responding to active shooters in a district facility in their multihazard emergency operations plan. These plans would be required to include school drills and exercises.

This bill would also require a district peace officer or a school resource officer to complete an active shooter response training program approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action recommends supporting HB 2655 because it promotes our principle of limited government. It is within the role of government to provide for the safety and security of their school students and employees.
