Fiscal Notes

The fiscal implications of the bill cannot be determined at this time.

Bill Analysis

HB 2286 would deregulate firearm suppressors in the state. The bill would additionally ban state entities, officers, employees, bodies etc. from enforcing federal silencer regulations, withholding state grants from entities that do so. Lastly, the bill would allow citizens to file complaints with the Attorney General offering evidence of a state entity enforcing federal regulations in violation of this bill.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 2286 for promoting the principles of limited government, property rights, and individual liberty. Law-abiding gun owners have a legitimate interest in using silencers for hearing protection purposes.
