Bill Caption

Relating to reimbursement of federal military treatment facilities under the workers’ compensation system.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 2207 would provide a definition of "federal military treatment facility" and clarify the medical care provided in these facilities is exempt from certain workers' compensation requirements. It would also base the reimbursement rates at these facilities on guidelines provided in federal law.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action recommends supporting HB 2207 because it promotes the principle of individual liberty and limited government. The purpose of this bill is to fix a problem arising from over-regulation by the federal government in regards to insurance reimbursement. This problem would never arise in a less-regulated free market, however we recognize that an unintended consequence of over-regulation should not allow injured employees to be stuck with a bill that would normally be covered by their workers' compensation except that the treatment occurred at a federal facility.
