Relating to legislative oversight of the issuance of driver's licenses and certain other forms of identification in this state.

Bill Analysis

HB 2025 would create a Joint Oversight Committee on Issuance of Driver's Licenses and Other Forms of Identification, with the duties of reviewing the administration and implementation of identification programs in the state such as driver's licenses, personal identification, election certificates, etc. The committee would make recommendations to improve the administration and organization of the programs. The Committee would additionally review the process of registering people to vote at the time of identification issuance. The committee would be abolished in 2029.

Texas Action remains neutral on HB 2025 as it does not affect our liberty principles. This is essentially an administrative bill that is within the Legislature's appropriate scope of power to consider.
