Bill Analysis

HB 196 would allow justice or municipal courts to the financial responsibility verification program in order to verify the insurance of a motor vehicle in a case in which a driver was alleged to have not maintained insurance or otherwise established financial responsibility.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports this bill for promoting the principle of limited government. This bill would help to speed up auto insurance cases while simultaneously keeping the burden of proof off of the defendant and onto the state, where it belongs.
