Fiscal Notes

Estimated Two-year Net Impact to General Revenue Related Funds for HB 162, As Introduced: an impact of $0 through the biennium ending August 31, 2021.

Bill Analysis

HB 162 would limit the circumstances under which the suspension of a drivers' license could be automatically extended. The bill would stipulate that a the suspension of a license could only be automatically extended “as the result of a conviction of an offense involving the operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated.” This would effectively eliminate Driving While License Invalid suspensions unless the original suspension was for driving while intoxicated.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 162 which benefits individual liberty and limited government by putting an end to a bureaucratic nightmare in which people who have had their drivers' license suspended get stuck in a never-ending cycle of license suspension rather than being able to take care of their citations and move forward.
