Relating to the Texas State Guard uniform and insignia fund.
The fiscal implications of the bill cannot be determined at this time. Although the bill would not
make an appropriation, it would establish the basis for an appropriation.
Currently, members of the Texas State Guard must pay for their own uniforms and equipment used during training and deployments to state-active duty. The typical uniform costs about $300. The Texas State Guard Uniform and Insignia Fund consists of donations, revenue received by the Texas State Guard from the sale of uniforms and insignia to members of the guard, and depository interest and investment income earned on money in the fund.
HB 1593 would authorize the legislature to appropriate funds to the Texas State Guard Uniform and Insignia Fund, giving the option for an additional source of funding.
Texas Action is neutral on HB 1593 because it does not affect our liberty principles.
