No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 155 would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure by adding a subsection which would require a state jail facility to notify the sentencing court via electronic communication of the date on which the defendant will have served 75 days in the facility. According to the author's background & purpose statement, this bill is designed to notify the courts "when a defendant in a state jail felony facility will have served enough time in the facility to trigger that court's consideration of the defendant for community supervision."

Vote Recommendation Notes

To the extent that this bill would promote efficiency in the criminal justice system and lead to earlier consideration of community supervision for eligible state jail inmates, this bill would support the principles of limited government and individual liberty. We support HB 155.
