Bill Caption

Relating to surety bonds for deputy clerks and other employees of county and district clerks.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1494 would require a district clerk or county clerk to issue a surety bond for each of their deputy clerks and other employees.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral on HB 1494 as it neither advances nor hinders any of our liberty principles. District and county clerks are already required to issue bonds to cover their deputies and other employees. This bill merely appears to clarify relevant requirements rather than make significant substantive changes.
