HB 1457 would allow a private practice criminal law attorney to be employed by a public defender’s office on a part-time basis for the sole purpose of providing counsel in relation to an indigent person’s appearance before a magistrate.
Texas Action is neutral on HB 1457 as it neither advances nor hinders any of our liberty principles.
