Relating to warning signs posted by certain food service
establishments that prepare food items containing peanut products.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 1015 would require food service establishments that prepare food containing peanuts or peanut products to post a sign that states "This establishment prepares food items that contain peanut products." The bill would require the Health and Human Service Commission to implement this plan.
Texas Action opposes this bill for violating the principles of limited government and free markets. This bill represents unnecessary government regulation on business. Persons with allergies should exercise their own due diligence to inquire of the restaurant whether peanuts or peanut products are used, rather than relying on a government-mandated sign to make them aware of this information.
